FOLIE À DEUX is nothing to laugh about based on opening weekend box office predictions

There's been a lot of DCU news in the last week Lanterns Casting for plans for an animated Robin movie. It's almost as if DC Studios is trying to distract us from, say, an impending box office flop.

It would be a bit unfair to put it that way Joker: Folie à Deux Things aren't looking great in this category at such an early stage, meaning this weekend won't be particularly good for the sequel.

According to Deadline, the DC Comics adaptation is aiming for a starting price of $55 million to $60 million in North America and a worldwide cume of $140 million. These numbers aren't bad on the surface, but compared to 2019's jokerthey look far less impressive.

Five years ago, this film opened with $96.2 million, beating projections of $80 million. Internationally, it also exceeded expectations, topping the $155 million forecast with over $248 million worldwide.

Reviews for Joker: Folie à Deux were not so positive and fans who had already seen the sequel in the first screenings were not particularly enthusiastic about the film. joker received 11 Oscar nominations and even won Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix; Whether it will be a successful awards season remains to be seen (it's not like the box office ever really matters in that regard).

Joker: Folie À Deux finds Arthur Fleck in an asylum in Arkham, awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. As Arthur struggles with his dual identity, he not only encounters true love, but also finds the music that has always been within him.

In the sequel, Joaquin Phoenix can be seen again in his Oscar-winning double role as Arthur Fleck/Joker alongside Oscar winner Lady Gaga (A star is born). The film also stars Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Exit), alongside Zazie Beetz, who reprises her role from joker.

Phillips, who was nominated for an Oscar for directing, writing and producing jokerdirected Joker: Folie À Deux from a screenplay by Oscar nominees Scott Silver & Phillips, based on characters from DC. This sequel was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner. Lady Gaga served as a music consultant.

Joker: Folie À Deux hits theaters on October 4th.
