Indiana's Donaven McCulley is reportedly planning to enter the transfer portal

Indiana loses a talented receiver to the transfer portal. Hoosiers way out there Donaven McCulley is planning a transfer, according to On3's Pete Nakos. Zach Osterman was the first to break the news.

“According to a source, Donaven McCulley is entering the transfer portal. #iufb,” Osterman tweeted.

McCulley has two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown this season. He played in four of five games for the Hoosiers, who got off to a 5-0 start.

Donaven McCulley began his career as a quarterback at Indiana before moving to receiver before the 2022 season. As a rookie in 2021, he appeared in six games and made four starts. McCulley accounted for four total touchdowns and threw two interceptions this year.

In 2022, his first season as a receiver, the Indianapolis native appeared in all twelve games and caught 16 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown. He also had a rushing touchdown.

As a junior in 2023, he had his best year yet, catching 48 passes for 644 yards and six touchdowns. He was named fourth-team All-Big Ten by Phil Steele and also received All-Big Ten honorable mention from coaches and media.

Expectations were high for Donaven McCulley entering the 2024 season and it seemed like he would be a perfect fit on offense Curt Cignetti running. However, he has now left the program and entered the transfer portal after making just two catches this year.

Even without McCulley making much of an impact, Indiana is off to a good start in 2024. The Hoosiers are 5-0 (2-0) and ranked No. 23 in the AP poll.

Indiana hasn't played the toughest schedule yet, but the Hoosiers have also handled every team they've played. IU has yet to play a game it hasn't won by at least 14 points.

The Hoosiers next play on the road this Saturday against Northwestern. With a win, Indiana can become bowl eligible and move to 3-0 in Big Ten play.
