Michael Schumacher “makes his first public appearance in 11 years” | F1 | sport

Michael Schumacher was reportedly seen in public for the first time in many years as he attended his daughter Gina-Maria's wedding.

According to The Mirror, seven-time Formula One world champion Schumacher, who suffered life-changing injuries in a skiing accident in 2013, was said to have been in attendance to see his daughter marry her new husband Ian Bethke.

It was Schumacher's first public appearance in many years as he attended the celebrations in his family's villa in Mallorca.

Schumacher requires around-the-clock care after his accident in the French Alps over a decade ago. While skiing with his son Mick, he hit his head on a rock even though he was wearing a helmet.

He was flown to Grenoble Hospital, where he underwent two surgical procedures before falling into a medically induced coma for several months.

The 55-year-old later returned to his home on Lake Geneva in September 2014, where he has since been cared for by his loving wife Corinna and her medical team.

The F1 legend's condition has been largely kept secret since then, with only a few friends and family able to visit him.

Gina-Maria's wedding was considered “extremely private” and guests' phones were said to have been left at the door upon arrival, but Schumacher was able to watch his eldest child walk down the aisle, marking a rare positive health update.

According to the Mallorcan magazine Ultima Hora, the ceremony lasted about half an hour. The newspaper reported that the couple invited guests to a banquet and party with a live country band.

The wedding started around 4:15 p.m. and the bride and groom said “I do” around 4:45 p.m. Gina posted a picture of the newlyweds on her Instagram with the caption: “Forever yes to you, yes forever.”

Ralf Schumacher, Michael's brother, was among those present, although his brother's care was left unclear.

The ceremony took place at the family's £27million mansion, which they bought from long-time Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in 2017.
