Report says Davante Adams requested trade earlier than originally reported

Was Davante Adams' trade request a response to Antonio Pierce liking a tweet about being traded by the Raiders?

Pierce made headlines for his social media activity on Monday, and it wasn't until Tuesday that it was revealed that Adams had requested a trade. So the timeline could indicate that Adams responded to the news on Monday.

But that wasn't necessarily the order in which the situation between Adams and the Raiders unfolded. According to a report from NFL Network, Adams actually requested the trade earlier than announced.

“Adams, one of the NFL's most outstanding wide receivers, told the Raiders on Monday that he would prefer to be traded,” insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo said.

That means it's possible Pierce “liked” a post about the Adams trade after Adams asked for the trade. It's also possible that Adams requested a trade immediately following the Pierce news.

Regardless of the timeline, the Raiders and Adams are preparing to go in different directions, and there's a chance a trade could happen much sooner than later. Now that everyone knows that the sides are open to a separation, it might be in the best interest of everyone involved not to let the process drag on.

It's been a dramatic 24 hours, but the reality is that the situation between Adams and the Raiders has been trending this way for some time. Adams reportedly approached the team about a trade last year, and there's no reason to believe he's any happier a year later.

Right now, the teams where it makes the most sense to trade Adams are the Jets and Commanders, and it will be interesting to see if Adams will use the leverage of his contract to force his way to where he wants to go .

No team will trade his massive contract unless they are assured he will show up and play right away.
